My name is Natalie and I have started on my journey to officially learn Japanese. I know a few phrases and words just from picking it up, but it will be nice to actually speak the language fluently eventually.
I am looking forward to the countless hours I will be spending at my desk, first learning how to write hiragana, katakana and eventually the numerous numerous amounts of kanji out there. Luckily, I have a Chinese background so hopefully those will come a little easier to me. I can only hope though, haha.

I love authentic Asian food, too! haha. Your Chinese background will definitely be an advantage when we start kanji. I'll be dying trying to memorize the stroke order and everything!
Oh man... those countless hours of Japanese are going to rough on all of us. It makes writing a 5 pager seem like a true or false test. But as Tanya says, your Chinese background is a huge plus for you. Just go easy on all of us struggling with the symbols. ;) Good luck in class!
i was actually wondering how chinese and japanese were related exactly. it's funny because in europe for example, spanish and french are so close but french and german are so much more far apart. i bet it would definitely help with penmanship though! i'm so clumsy when writing in english it's near impossible for me to write in japanese neatly unless i do it carefully. hopefully though those hours will pay off right! haha
hey there:D Sooo, I found out in class today that our last names sound very similar in Japanese... it got me all confused when Sensei was trying to address us to test hiragana haha. Anways, Doozo yoroshiku!
I definitely feel you on the countless hours part. This language is so hard!!! I really do believe her when she says it is the hardest language for native English speakers. Anyway if you ever feel like doing some charity I sure could use it with writing the symbols LOL
Jaa,mata!
